The sun sets at like 3:30 pm and rises at like 8 am. It doesn't matter if it's dark we still teach lessons, go street contacting and such. Just the normal missionary life.
That's really cool how temple work is so wide spread around the world. Good thing that the apostles put an emphasis on going to the temple!(: Yay, for temple work. One of our Chinese members just got endowed at the Preston, England Temple(: I am really happy that he is righteous and is able to continue to make sacred covenants with the Lord. He is a great church member, really super solid in the gospel. He knows so much about the Gospel and has only been a member for 2 years. This one time we ran into him while we were going back to the flat and he was going to the chapel to go to Institute class. He came all the way over from Byker which is a pretty long metro ride. But he didn't know that Institute had ended for the year! But his dedication to go to Institute was an example to me. If I was on holiday pre-mission, I normally wouldn't go to a Church class. He walked to the metro station with us and while we waited for the metro we taught a member lesson with him and later he came with us to teach another member lesson with another member who lives around the City Center.
I intend to keep in contact with all the investigators and church members I meet. I want them to be solid, because I worked so hard with them to learn about Christ and develop faith in Christ and God. And I see how much the gospel has helped them in many aspects of their lives.
So while sis larson and I were waiting outside the China Town gate/sign for church investigators and members to bring to Family Home Evening, I stared at the sign, which was in chinese character, for like 20 mins. I wondered why the sign said, Cheng Guo Zhong (Town China), why it was backwards. Then, it hit me. Chinese read right to left! Ha! The China Town sign now makes sense to me haha
So, it is the new year, I have set a goal for myself, a new year's resolution. It is to smile more, whether it be a smile with my lips or a smile with my eyes. I just want to smile more because, this gospel is a happy one and of course missionary work is fun. And by smiling more, people will be more attracted to you and will be more likely to talk to you. People like happy people!
Also in Church, we went over resolutions from General Conference. In Relief Society meeting, we had 4 groups and talked about a few topics. My group talked about prayer, fast offerings, repentance daily, and Family Home Evening. We discussed how we can improve personally or what can help and what we can do as a sisterhood. It was a great talk, I learned new ways I could improve on the topics. For prayer we talked about how we can have more meaningful prayer by pondering before praying about the things that happened through the day, also with that pondering afterwards to wait for an answer and revelation. Praying aloud also helps me personally, to pay attention to what I am saying in conversing with Heavenly Father. And when I say it out loud, to me, it means more. There's more confidence in my prayer. And as missionaries we pray all the time, I've never in my life prayed more than now haha but that's okay it's a great thing. More time to talk with God. More guidance in my life.
For the next topic, fast offerings, we all agreed that it was a personal choice and decision in how much money to give, but a speaker in the last General Conference said to give as generous offering as circumstances will allow. Fast offering helps the ward so the more you offer the more you help your fellow church members(:
Repentance daily. Such an important topic, when we repent we won't have grudges or negative feelings, this is a good one I need to work on. As we repent daily, we will be a lot happier. The negative load will be lifted everyday. It will be less to carry. It is also key, one of the group members pointed out, to pray for what you need to repent for. Most times we won't notice things in ourselves and as we pray and ask God what we need to repent for He will guide us and give us promptings on how to be more Christlike.
The last topic was Family Home Evening. A lot of great FHE ideas were said, like, setting apart the WHOLE evening, not just an hour, for FHE. Hence Family home EVENING. Another Idea was that everyone can set apart time to do FHE even if you live alone or don't have children. FHE is time set apart to grow and learn more about Church/Christ/ETC. Church is a brilliante (idk why I typed that in spanish) place to learn!
It's great to be on a mission -- a lot of things are opening my mind that I haven't noticed before.
Hope this new year is great!
