That's a good idea having potluck lunch between General Conference sessions next weekend. We'll organise that(: my companion and I are quitting candy until our church investigators get xili-ed 洗禮 baptised. Bahaha Candy and I cannot separate ;p Our flat has a 13th floor. they go 0,1,2,3, deng deng 等等 etc. It's weird and confusing to have a floor zero (ground) floor. Sheffield is not holding a world cup rugby game in their stadium but Newcastle is so it'll be crazy over there!
So Hedwig has been hosting her friend Ying-studying in Newcastle. We taught them the 10 commandments and tithing and fasting. Both are willing to commit to them. This past Sunday we went to go eat dinner with them. Ying made 4 dishes, a beef one, chicken, and two veg dishes. The food was so good! I definitely gained a few pounds from it haha. But in the lesson, afterwards, we discussed how we can make our scripture study better. We chatted about what we want to develop in our selves. And Hedwig wants to be more diligent with her time, we looked up scripture verses to show her that we can learn for ourselves from the word of God and receive help from them. She really got excited about that. Hedwig has also got a boyfriend...which is a church member! So, we can prep them for a temple marriage! HAHA!
We met 2 solid church investigators this week, Leslie and Swing.
Leslie was originally found by Sis Wu (whom I was flatmates with in Newcastle). We found her again doing fun finding(: At first she said she was only interested in church activities because she was leaving soon. But because of Sis Pugsley's brilliance she was rung to come to church and she came! She loved it and we invited her to Family Home Evening. After the lesson she kinda complained that at the church activities we talk about simple Christian things but she wanted to learn more about our Church, the Mormons. WAHT? When did this interest develop?! At Church she was reading the programme and found her answer to life. Since she is just graduated, she feels like her life is just beginning. In the programme like this, a catholic, protestant, and mormon got together to discuss when life starts. The Catholic said, 'at fertilisation.' Protestant, 'At birth.' The Mormon, 'When your kids have gradutated uni and are out of the house!' This was a lil joke but it rang with familiarity with Leslie. So we set up an appointment and had a fantastic lesson.
A few things that Leslie said which were amazing! We discussed the Prophets- Sis Pugs' inspired question (She's amazing). She said, 'I believe that our knowledge is limited and that someone like a prophet can overcome that barrier and receive more knowledge from God.' WE also talked about the Holy Spirit, how it feels and how we can recognise it. We asked her, what she felt right after Sis Pugs recited the Prophet Joseph Smith's first vision of God and Jesus Christ. She said, 'Nothing, i don't feel anything.' .............'But earlier I felt warm and I didn't know why. And it's so cold outside, I thought I was just excited or something.' Told her right then and there it was the Holy Spirit testifying that what we say is true. Later in the lesson she shared, 'I feel it now.' And when we invited her to be baptised she said, ' Now? Can I get baptised in a few weeks?' This is the first person i have ever taught that has said she wants to get baptised in a few weeks, they usually say in several months! This lesson was truly a miracle!(: probs one of the best lessons of my mission!
WE later in fun finding met a Chinese Minion! She's from Guang zhou so spoke a lil canto to her. She said my accents isn't too bad. Surprising since all I do is try to playfully mimic mum and all the aunties when they gather haha When we met her she said she was waiting for the moment to follow God. We scheduled an appt for the following day. We spoke a lot about families and lesson 2, Plan of Happiness(: She's told us that, 'she's on her journey walking towards God but wants to have that moment and run towards God.' No Chinese person has ever said that. She wants a clear answer from God, this defines her moment. Also when Sis Pugs shared a Book of Mormon scripture 2 Nephi 2:11. She asked, ' Can I have one of these Books?' YEs, you most definitely can! So Swing was another great highlight of this week!
Both Leslie and Swing have been pressured by other churches to join theirs and this is their first time where they don't feel that pressure to join but they want to join for themselves(: We can't wait to teach them and to work hard this week, we've had made some challenging goals this transfer and we are going to accomplish them!
Ta rah loves,
