I remember you telling me to get ready to train but I didn't think it would happen, I guess I need to keep the 5th commandment (Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee) a little bit better haha ;p The Newcastle area has 5 teams of missionaries. 3 of them are focusing on the Chinese- Sis Larson & Xie, Sis Hurst & I, and Elder Chan (from Hong Kong) & Elder Sorenson. The other teams focus on the English and one out of the two is a senior couple - Elder & Sis Marsh. Throughout my the majority of my mission I've done Chinese finding, but now since I am training an English speaker I've got to start street contacting English too so that my baby will know how to do both. For street contacting, we do finding in the City Centre where most of the Asian students reside. We decide to teach people according to what they want to learn, and most of the time, the Chinese are just curious with religion so we teach them Lesson 1 The Restoration of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. But with Barry, he had a interest in families together forever so we taught Lesson 1 with an emphasis on how families can be together forever through the gospel(:
Last Friday LIU got baptised! He was so nervous and wanted to have a week to prepare for it. But Sis Salcedo and I assured him with love and support that he will be okay and to get baptised on Friday. It was a great baptismal service. Liu is a shy guy and after the accepting baptism he shared his testimony of Jesus Christ and it was just perfect. He said he was so grateful for the opportunity to get baptised(: The Holy Spirit was strong there and another church investigator, Barry, came to the service.
We had a lesson with Barry the day after Liu's baptism and rescheduled his baptism for the 25th of April! In order for Barry to make that date, we are going to see him more than once a week. He said that is totally fine! He's been totally prepared by the Lord because he told us that he's been slowly quitting drinking in the last 4 years. And when he came to Church he was so excited to tell everyone about getting baptism in 2 weeks time. In Gospel Principles Sunday School class, a church investigator said something about doing bad things in his past life and Barry said 'Just do what I am doing and get baptised in two weeks.' It was just so great to see how excited he is to get baptised. And he is willing to learn and change. I am so grateful that I was led by the Holy Spirit to go to the wrong address while doing Address Unknown Files that day in March. Teaching Barry is a blessing.
Another miracle is me not dying. I tried a kebab for the first time after Liu's baptism. KE-BABTISED! It's an interesting food....it's like a lamb hotdog...or so they say...Miracles are happening all the time in the mission! Just keep looking for them!
Crystal told me what mom said on Facebook. I know my chinese still sucks and there's no way I'll be fluent (liuli jiaoliu 流利交流) by the end of my mission. We call Paul (my investigator with sis larson in the Newcastle Uni area) Shu Shu 叔叔 because he's like the oldest Chinese investigator. He's only 20 something tho haha I ask people on the street about how old I look and they always guess way higher than my age...I feel old though. The mission is exhausting but so rewarding. Very rewarding, so much so, that I don't even feel tired when I am doing missionary work.
I got to see Sister Christensen at transfer meeting, she's moving to Sheffield. But it was nice to see her(: I think the next Chinese speaking trainers are going to be Sis Sun in Hull and Sister Christensen. I know that there are 2 Chinese speaking missionaries coming to Leeds in July. One of them is a native Chinese and the other I am guessing is from the States. So I am excited for JULY!(:
Training is a great experience, I am just showing the ropes to my baby but she is well prepared. She already knows the doctrine and the lessons in Preach My Gospel guide to missionary service so training her is going well. It's a miracle to see the energy and new ideas she brings to the mission. It definitely motivates me to do better and brings great outcomes. We have been doing better street contacting and been able to have better lessons with investigators and have them progress. By small and simple means great things are brought to pass!
Take care, stay healthy and happy
